GOSSIP GIRL 6x2: "High Infidelity"

Blair and her burgeoning career as fashion mogul take center stage in preparation for a big interview with Women's Wear Daily, but she runs into trouble with not one but TWO familiar faces. Elsewhere on the island, Serena makes her big debut into adult society by hosting a gala for the Central Park Conservancy - but she may not be able to handle a bombshell about Steven & Sage. The good ship Gossip Girl is pretty much steering itself, gang.

Starting with this episode, I've decided to eliminate traditional recaps in favor of a photocap-only format. I'll still offer my thoughts and critique at the end, but the (lengthy) summaries are now a thing of the past. I'm streamlining to focus on the good stuff. So let's get started!

NELLY YUKI!!!!

To be fair, that was a pretty huge pile that Serena didn't handle.

I love this girl, and even I keep forgetting her name.

Poppy Lifton and her wigs have aged extremely well.

Jenny Humphrey was the only one to receive a mention this week.

While "High Infidelity" is a vast improvement over the season premiere, my comfort in knowing that things have gotten back to normal is turning into uneasiness over the very same thing. We've got just 8 episodes left - of the series. They're gonna need to push the gas pedal a little harder. That being said, there was a lot to love.

  • Nelly Yuki and Poppy Lifton! Two of my favorite tertiary characters from the past - who had never even met - were suddenly now partying together in their own subplot. It's a classic final season move, and I support it whole-heartedly.
  • Poppy acknowledging that she was essentially run out of town by children is surprisingly self-aware for the character/show.
  • And of course Nelly Yuki is trying to bring down Blair with the high road (and WWD).
  • Georgina was on fire this week, and I'm glad that the censors don't pay attention to this show. Keep that crazy comin'!
  • Chuck is going to bring down Bart. It's almost as if the old man had never faked his death and disappeared for 4 seasons in the first place!
  • Dan's attributing Jenny's banishment to Blair and friends - and the shitbag hasn't even said thank you.
  • I'm very excited to spend more time in THE ATELIER set, which has suspiciously the same layout as Blair and Serena's adjoining bedrooms at the Waldorf penthouse. Which we'll probably never see again.
  • The writers must have known that we needed time to recover, and there was no sign of Rufus or Ivy this week.
  • Slutty Sage is pushy and the worst. She's also a horrifying amalgam of both Jenny AND Vanessa (Jenessa). Oh, and she's Steven's daughter. And yeah, and she's 17.
  • I would say that Nate should find someone his own age, but he's already tried that...in addition to going way older, and now way younger. Give up on women, Nate.

Next week, on Gossip Girl:

Feeling the pressure to make her first Waldorf Designs fashion show a success, Blair must rely on help from an unlikely source, but some unexpected scheming causes a scandal on the runway. Serena discovers that befriending Steven's daughter Sage is trickier than she thought, especially when she is forced to put her issues with Blair aside to make Sage happy. Nate publishes Dan’s first serialized article causing a stir and producing a serious threat. Meanwhile, Chuck begins to look into the clue that Amira left behind, which may help uncover what Bart is hiding.

"Dirty Rotten Scandals" airs October 22nd at 9pm.
Photocap posts on October 24th.
