Before I head off to San Diego for Comic-Con, how about some Summertime music? While my DJs-in-blog-residence work on other exciting projects, I get to share some of my favorite new songs in a format that's short, sweet and sonically-pleasing. Here's four songs to get you going!
One of my favorite recent discoveries, Imagine Dragons have an EP out called 'Continued Silence'. It features 6 exceptional (and exceptionally different) tracks, including "Round and Round" which was featured on Gossip Girl. "On Top of the World" is probably the most upbeat though, and definitely my favorite:
Owl City can be a little divisive, I've learned. Which is why I guess it makes sense that he should team up with Carly Rae Jespen, since I don't think there's a soul alive that doesn't enjoy "Call Me Maybe" at least on a passive level. Their collaboration was made for Summer down to its core, and I can't get enough:
Brooklyn duo Matt & Kim continue to crank out perfectly-assembled indie pop, year after year. A few years ago "Good Ol' Fashioned Nightmare" played over promos for the premiere of Community, then later they gave us "Cameras", and now the haunting - but dancey! - "Let's Go". Score another one for the boroughs:
Recently I saw Foster the People live (incredible in and of itself), and one of the openers was Mayer Hawthorne. At first I wasn't sure, but by the end of his set he had completely won me over. One of the songs he & his band played was "Love in Motion", and it wasn't 'til I got home and went immediately to iTunes that he was lending his vocals to someone else's song. And they sample "Puttin' on the Ritz" by Taco. Nuff said:
I'll definitely be doing more Music Express posts in the future, so keep an eye (ear?) out. In the meantime, I'll be workin' Comic-Con all this week with Quantum Mechanix - booth #2944. Come say hello if you're at the show, but if not you can keep track of the madness via my Instagram: zipandakick. See you in a week!
