A VIEW TO A CON

Like its accompanying rain storm, WonderCon blew into Anaheim last weekend for three days of intense geek love. Here are some personal highlights, including lots of entertaining cosplay AND my first-ever panel...Prometheus!

WonderCon took a year off from its usual venue up north in San Francisco for 2012, and brought the show down to Anaheim. It was my first time at this convention - as well as my first time at an event with my new employer - so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. I've been doing conventions for years, but there were a lot of variables this time around that added up to a deck of wild cards.

Turns out? It was basically Comic-Con Junior! Which means lots of vendors, swag, cosplay, and occasionally difficult-to-identify odors. Overall though, it was a great warmup for San Diego - everyone seemed to have a great time, even with the inclement weather. You can't stop the geek!

I'm also very excited to share that for the first time in my history of working Comic-Cons...I got to attend a panel! And not just any panel, mind you...PROMETHEUS! Because I work for an amazing company and have a genuinely awesome boss, I got to leave the booth for a couple of hours and literally have my breath taken away inside the Anaheim Convention Center's answer to Hall H.

The panel was moderated by Damon Lindelof (of LOST fame, who also wrote the screenplay) and featured none other than the legendary Sir Ridley Scott (returning to the franchise as director).

And there are some really, really pretty people involved in this movie. Charlize Theron and the hottest goddamn man in the galaxy Michael Fassbender both made the trip down to the OC to prove to everyone just how funny and effortlessly charming they are.

FASSBENDER MAKE HAPPY IN MY PANTS

The panel seemed to go by in a heartbeat, but every minute was chock full of goodness. Sir Ridley introduced the newest Prometheus trailer for the room, which we got to see before anyone else. Between that footage and sharing the same ballroom air as these four incredible artists, I was pretty much on cloud nine for the remainder of the weekend. I literally cannot stop being excited for Prometheus, as my anticipation swells with each passing day. And one more time for good measure: I WAS IN THE SAME ROOM AS MICHAEL FASSBENDER.

While everyone else kinda pales in comparison to the sexiness of Fassie, I must give credit where credit is due to Sean Maher (Firefly, Serenity) - coming out has officially made him even hotter. And bonus points for Jane Espenson (who was signing at our booth on Saturday) for making the photo even more adorable.

As per tradition, here are my favorite shots of the many cosplayers wandering the show floor throughout the weekend. I've grouped them into categories this time around - click to make 'em bigger!

STAR WARS

Little girl riding around in a remote controlled R2-D2, and awesome kid as LEGO Darth Maul

DISNEY

Meg (Hercules) and Ariel (The Little Mermaid)

Quorra (Tron: Legacy) and this crazy old guy

BATGIRL

Not one but TWO Yvonne Craig Batgirls at the show!

And this guy, too.

DARK PHOENIX

Caucasian and African-American Editions

BOTH HOT GUYS

Blonde Green Ranger (it's morphin' time!) and Captain America

AND THE REST

Kitana (Mortal Kombat) and Mini-Mickey-Rourke as Whiplash with Tony Stark (Iron Man 2)

Maroon Jumper Counselor Troi (Star Trek: The Next Generation) and a delightful hodgepodge of franchises

While it did take me almost an entire week to recover, I've already got my sights set on San Diego in just a few short months. WonderCon was fun, but it'll be nice to get back to the big show!
