The 84th Academy Awards are now mere hours away. Somewhere here in Hollywood, Team The Artist is no doubt practicing their speeches...and if they're smart, planning ahead with an Edible Arrangement to send to George Clooney tomorrow.

The real Oscar buzz this year (for me) is of course that Darren Criss will be performing "Rainbow Connection" with none other than Kermit the Frog for E!'s red carpet pre-show. The Muppets may not get to perform their Academy Award-nominated song "Man or Muppet" during the telecast, but I'll take this as a consolation prize - along with Kermit and Miss Piggy as presenters.

But seriously, I'm not sure who to be more envious of. Sure, it's for two completely different reasons - but this is a tough one. Meeting Kermit remains to this day one of my life aims, but Darren Criss is also a one-man swoon factory. At the same time, I don't know that Mr. Criss could get those magnificent arms to flail like the Muppets' fearless leader can. I guess I'll just have to settle on this being a match made in Zip and a Kick! heaven.

In all fairness both The Descendants and Penelope Ann Miller's The Artist have managed to escape my eyes this season, but I'm sure I'll get to them in the coming weeks. And while it's a goddamn shame that dire financial straits have reduced the show to being broadcast "Live from Hollywood & Highland Center" rather than the Kodak Theatre, I'm still somehow looking forward!

After all, even elderly wisecracker Billy Crystal seems guaranteed to deliver a more entertaining show than the inexplicably disastrous Franco & Hathaway. Muppets forever! Darren Criss 'til he gets old! YAY OSCARS!
