KNEEL BEFORE JOANIE

I've just completed season 2 disc 2 of Mad Men, and I am frankly short of breath. Don's house of cards is finally starting to tumble, and pretty much all I can do is think about Joan Holloway.

I said from the beginning that I was convinced she was the protagonist of the series, by sheer virtue of how much I loved her immediately. Season 2 is bringing out a lot more Joanie, and I am infinitely pleased. She rules the office with an iron fist wrapped in gossamer, and I'm not lying when I say that I feel inspired whenever she is onscreen.

One of the things that never ceases to amaze me is how seriously she takes her job. She is fully committed to Don, Roger (for a time) and really Sterling Cooper as a whole. She's not someone who simply delights in being a bitch for no reason...most of the time. Every perfectly-chosen word that comes out of her mouth is usually in order to maintain order.

When she goes to assist Crane in the TV department, she does it with a smile - despite the fact that she probably despises him. She may not like him, but she respects him. That's class. And she would have been so good at her interim post...

Oh, and she gets to be the effortless Queen of SterCoo while looking like a million bucks. And a million 60s bucks is somewhere in the billions nowadays. Think about THAT. Some more food for thought: that Mad Men Joan Holloway Barbie Doll is divine, no?

So there you have it. Add it to my short list of some of the most amazing television characters ever created. What? You're not writing this down? I thought you were taking a memo...

I truly think she's in the top 10 greatest television characters of all time. SO happy she got an Emmy nom for season 3...just you wait! I was devastated when she didn't get nominated for Season 2. Thank you for this, twin!
