Somehow in the midst of computer problems and family comings and goings, I missed the announcement of the greatest thing to ever happen to high-definition. Leave your inhibitions at the door...Showgirls is coming to Blu-ray!

Not content in simply owning the VIP Edition DVD boxed set (which includes shot glasses, playing cards, and a "Pin the Pastie on the Showgirl" game), come June 15th I will add the 15th Anniversary Sinsational Edition Blu-Ray and DVD combo pack to my collection. For those of you keeping track, this will be the 3rd release of Showgirls I'll have purchased. And I've got no shame about it!

Easily one of the greatest trashterpieces of all time, Elizabeth Berkley's courageous portrayal of dancer (don't call her a whore) Nomi Malone - from "different places!!!" - continues to be one of my favorite film experiences. It's actually one of the only times I'm truly comfortable with naked ladies. Mesmerized, even! Between the acting explosions, the choreography and Kyle MacLachlan's floppy hair, this movie's got it all. And it's not afraid to show it to you.

And the plot thickens! A couple months ago there was all this nonsense floating around the internets about Showgirls 2, being produced by a German fan-turned-director. It was to tell the story of Penny/Hope from the original, traveling to [COUNTRY] to avenge the death of [SOMEONE]. The "trailer" (if you can call it that) was terrifying and stupid. But then...

The actress who played Penny/Hope (Rena Riffel) released a statement not soon after to clear the air, as it were:
"Some media outlets have been reporting and posting about a SHOWGIRLS follow-up feature called SHOWGIRLS 2, which I am not affiliated with, in any way, shape or form. I'll admit, I was contacted by the German SHOWGIRLS fan-turned-'Hollywood director' to star in his first feature film. However, it was so horrifically graphic and out of the show's original story theme that I needed to withdraw from those talks. I am officially working on my own SHOWGIRLS follo-up feature film. Recently, I posted a short sequel "teaser" on YouTube, which I wrote and directed myself."

Okay, let's all just take a deep breathe. IT GETS BETTER.
"My film is titled SHOWGIRL, being that I am the last and only "showgirl" still keeping that flame alive. It's sort of a..."What ever happened to Penny Hope?" - fifteen years later, story. SHOWGIRL is my take on what becomes of a thirty-something year-old stripper who is still obsessed with dancing and fame."

Still with me? Good. Who else will be involved, Rena?
"SHOWGIRLS' fans will be pleased to learn that some of the original cast members have agreed to be in SHOWGIRL, and some of my MULLHOLLAND DRIVE cast members will appear as well. It is my hope to work with my SHOWGIRLS friends Gina Gershon and Elizabeth Berkley again too. And, I am even thinking about giving my former STRIPTEASE co-star friend Demi Moore a call. You could say I'm pulling a "Barbra Streisand." SHOWGIRL is my YENTL, because I will be writing, directing and starring!"

Seriously, I need a fucking respirator I'm so excited. Check out the aforementioned teaser here. I will totally send her $50 to help with production costs. Maybe they could film some of it in my apartment in exchange? Not that Elizabeth Berkley would touch this with a 10-foot stripper pole, but I'd be happy to sit down with her and discuss it.

It's time to get this show on the road. Viva Nomi Malone and Company!
